The Time of the Great Giving

7:11 AM

It was my initial plan to look up for my stack of unpublished or unpublicized articles on some exploits I had this year, but I think I need to exert more effort or I may be recreate another batch of the same topics.

Well anyway, it was a brilliant sunny morning! And it is seven days before Christmas. I know, I know. We don't celebrate Christmas but in a community tainted with the holiday season, we also share in solidarity to their celebration. And gifts are really mainstream in this time.

As part of the season of sharing, the organization I belong to, the Youth Advocators Productive Integrated Service Inc. (YAPIS Inc.), has planned of giving small noche buena packs to some students in a hinterland barangay. By the way, these students are scholars of our organization. The targeted area, Dalamas Elementary School is located between the boundary of Iligan City and Tagoloan Municipality, accessible only to single motorcycles with a single trip lasting for 35 minutes. *phew! imagine that!*

Though the trip made our butts hurt and arms and legs shaking of all the tension we need to put up, we managed to exert more effort upon seeing the excited faces of the kids. With prizes of small chips, ballpens and assorted goodies, we were able to leave a mark in their simple lives.

For the spirit of Christmas, the scholars were given small packs of spaghetti with fruit juices aside from the games that they happily took part in. It was a small one but the way I see it, it was already sumptous and very special to the scholars. I and the other members of the organization wished that we can provide more the next time, just to gain that simple "thank you" with a smile from the kids.

All in all, it was a life experiencing moment. The smiles of the kids were priceless although we jokingly tagged our travel experience there as classified in the "buwis buhay" category. Life is so much fun with community involvement.

Until the next time, Dalamas! Wait up for our next gift giving to our second school beneficiary, the Miguel Obach Elementary School. Farewell greetings, earthlings!
